Wednesday 31 August marks World Distance Learning Day, which embraces learning that takes place outside of a physical classroom, be that remote learning delivered entirely at a distance, or a hybrid blend of classroom and home learning.
Here at International Workplace, we provide both online eLearning and virtual classroom courses to deliver health and safety training remotely, to a range of industries.
So far in 2022 we've delivered our accredited IOSH and NEBOSH courses to over 4,000 learners worldwide, with 70% studying via one of our distance learning options.
World Distance Learning Day aims to raise awareness of available learning resources and celebrate how the far the concept has advanced – from courses delivered by post to high-quality online sessions.
Virtual training became even more important during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, we transitioned the majority of our learning to be undertaken remotely. Delegates participated in an introductory virtual classroom tutorial, undertaken via Microsoft Teams, where the key principles of the course were discussed. The introductory webinar introduced the learners to their tutor, and each other, just as a classroom training session would. Learners then completed the online course and resources via our award-winning online learning platform. The model proved extremely successful and now over 70% of our courses are undertaken remotely.
What our learners say
“I thought the tutors handled the remote/online learning really well as it’s much harder to get interaction online than in a classroom. They were patient with explanations and very supportive.”
Kate Miller, Savills
“The online training was easy to follow and allowed you to take it at your own pace. Also, the Microsoft Teams training with Jamie Robinson was great, he engaged with everyone, easy to follow and explained situations so we were able to fully understand.”
Corrina Savage, Jackson Square Shopping Centre
“The ease of use of the site, course material and learning experience has changed my view on eLearning.”
John Dymond, Pario
“Definitely the best delivered remote learning course I’ve come across in COVID times. The elements presented made a good impact and made the course feel really relevant! I’ve recommended this to others in my team to get up to speed with H&S culture.”
Simon Holt, Voltalia
“Initially I was unclear how effective an online course would be… however, the presenter (Jamie) was excellent and the course content structured well. It’s definitely a model that will work and allows an efficient delivery of training without the travel component, which makes it attractive.”
Gerry Doherty, Savills
